I Believe

November 7th, 2006 by sooty-lashes

I can only tell you what I believe; I believe:
I cannot be saved by foreign policies.
I cannot be saved by the sexual revolution.
I cannot be saved by the gross national product.
I cannot be saved by nuclear deterrents.
I cannot be saved by aldermen, priests, artists,
plumbers, city planners, social engineers,
nor by the Vatican,
nor by the World Buddhist Association,
nor by Hitler, nor by Joan of Arc,
nor by angels and archangels,
nor by powers and dominions,
I can be saved only by Jesus Christ."
- Daniel Berrigan (via Journey with Jesus)

Daniel B. Clendenin’s update was interesting… perhaps we could begin looking at our own lives and make our own versions (as an exercise for ourselves), he says …

"I like to update and expand Berrigan’s repudiation of false hopes and misplaced trust. I cannot be saved by George Bush or Jesse Jackson, by Hillary Clinton or Condi Rice, nor by their successors or opponents. I cannot be saved by Green Peace or the ACLU, by Focus on the Family or by Promise Keepers. Which returns us to the Psalm for this week: "Blessed is he whose help is in the God of Jacob, whose hope is in the Lord his God" (146:5)."

Taken from Pastor Sivin’s blog (sivinkit.net). It’s a great reminder of what we should be and believe in. Be blessed, my friends.

Wanna know what makes women phenomenal?

"Phenomenal Woman"
By Maya Angelou

Pretty women wonder where my secret lies.
I’m not cute or built to suit a fashion model’s size
But when I start to tell them,
They think I’m telling lies.
I say,
It’s in the reach of my arms
The span of my hips,
The stride of my step,
The curl of my lips.
I’m a woman
Phenomenally.
Phenomenal woman,
That’s me.

I walk into a room
Just as cool as you please,
And to a man,
The fellows stand or
Fall down on their knees.
Then they swarm around me,
A hive of honey bees.
I say,
It’s the fire in my eyes,
And the flash of my teeth,
The swing in my waist,
And the joy in my feet.
I’m a woman
Phenomenally.
Phenomenal woman,
That’s me.

Men themselves have wondered
What they see in me.
They try so much
But they can’t touch
My inner mystery.
When I try to show them
They say they still can’t see.
I say,
It’s in the arch of my back,
The sun of my smile,
The ride of my breasts,
The grace of my style.
I’m a woman

Phenomenally.
Phenomenal woman,
That’s me.

Now you understand
Just why my head’s not bowed.
I don’t shout or jump about
Or have to talk real loud.
When you see me passing
It ought to make you proud.
I say,
It’s in the click of my heels,
The bend of my hair,
the palm of my hand,
The need of my care,
‘Cause I’m a woman
Phenomenally.
Phenomenal woman,
That’s me.

Tributes~

September 5th, 2006 by sooty-lashes

This is a tribute post. Read on to find who it is for, especially if the initials are yours! :)

To my true-blue friends (YCWP, KWYY, LKLP, SYJM) - Muchas gracias. Thanks for being there when I needed you. Thanks for your love and kindness. Thank you for those "scoldings" and unwavering support that you’ve given me, for I know that true friends are honest yet loving. You’re all my rocks in times of storms. I owe you big time. I love you all.

To my housemates (you girls know who you are *wink*) - Xie Xie. Thanks for being so kind in sharing whatever you’ve shared with me (HLN, you most especially! *smile*). Thanks for the fun times (the laughter, the jokes, the parties, the pictures, the outings). Xie Xie for the ups and downs, for I have learnt so much from all of you. You’re all great girls, and I say that from my heart. =) May we continue living with each other in peace, harmony and love. Hehe.

To my dearest sister - Te quiero (I love you)! ‘Nuff said. :D

To my godbrother (JTQE) - Thank youuuuuu. You’re God-sent.

SF - Terima kasih for lending me your camera :). And thank you for being like a big brother to me.

MTHW - Xie Xie for your advice, encouragement and support. I truly thank God for you too. :)

There are certainly other people for me to thank, but for now, at this point in time, the people above are people I needed to make a tribute to.

Sincerely from,
Adelynne <3

Time to post

August 27th, 2006 by sooty-lashes

I’m kinda sick of seeing the same old title of my last post on Friendster blog, so I decided it’s time to write something new.

But honestly? I don’t know what to write. So I will just have some ramblings. If you don’t want to read it, then don’t.

I’m glad to be home. Coming home to my family and my home equals comfort and non-self-consciousness coz I can be completely laidback and don’t-care-ish without worrying about anything/anyone. I know my family loves me despite all that they see of me ;). That’s why I feel kinda sad to be leaving for Penang quite soon, but nevermind. I will be thankful nonetheless.

Today my church celebrated its 24th anniversary. Yay, we’re all 24! =) I love Metro, and always will, though I may be somewhere else. May Metro continue to grow and learn and love. And may God bless Metro always.

=)

A Beautiful Day Out

April 12th, 2006 by sooty-lashes

Finally, after many times of planning to go to USM’s Engineering Campus in Nibong Tebal, my housemate and I managed to go there today! They say the third time’s the charm, and it’s true. It has just been proven today =).

Anyway, I had an awesome time at the campus. Firstly, it’s BEAUTIFUL. I know not many KKJ-ers will agree with me ;), but it honestly is. It’s clean, it’s new, and the scenery is just gorgeous. There is so much space and so much land, and the air is clean and fresh - no pollution whatsoever, be it noise or air pollution. It’s peaceful, and that’s the second thing I love about it. You can’t get peace like that in USM Main Campus on a normal day! ;) That’s not to say I don’t love our Main Campus, coz I sure do, but the E Campus is a breath of fresh air. I loved seeing the different Engineering Schools *there are 6 schools there, to those who’ve never been there*, loved hearing the "little" stories about the schools that Aaron *our tour guide!* told ;), and hearing about how they live in the campus. It’s amazing how friendships grow and people mature in university.

I also loved my time there because of the people ;). I’ve gotta thank my friends whom I met there, Max, Aaron, Ah Lia, Ah Kong, and Sheau Yun, and others whom I just got to know when I went there today. Your hospitality, friendliness and kindness has indeed had an impact on me! =) It was so good to see all of you again after one year *imagine, it’s a year after CC05!*, and I thank you for it. Thanks for taking me and my housemate to that delicious laksa and ice kacang stall in Nibong Tebal ;). I would like to go back there again, please! :D

My housemate’s wish, which is to go to E Campus before leaving USM, has been granted today. And my wish, to meet my friends from CC05 again, has also been granted. But I will go back there again next semester! :D I can’t help it, I’ve gotta go. It’s too beautiful a place and too nice a people to NOT go there again =).

All the best and God bless, KKJ-ers! :D

Flying

April 5th, 2006 by sooty-lashes

What flies by, in the blink of an eye?

TIME.

Honestly, I can still remember my first day in university - excited, nervous, happy. And now, it’s the end of my 2nd year. To where has time gone?

This year, my second sidang, is definitely more challenging, more stressful, and more work. But is it more fun? More exciting? Yeah, sort of. I enjoyed getting to know more people. I enjoyed church, and the people in it. I enjoyed doing my daily dances with the One. And I enjoyed having housemates :).

But the thing I enjoy most, is how much I’ve learnt. The things I’ve learnt about myself, about people, about life, about God. I completely agree with that quote - the best lessons learnt in life are learnt OUTSIDE the classroom. There’s only so much you can learn in lectures or tutorials. How can you contain life inside a room? That is why I don’t believe in scoring a string of A’s, even though I know I can.

I will be starting training soon, and I can’t wait. But I know, while I’m training, I will miss my Penang friends. =(

To all my coursemates and friends in USM, THANK YOU for a great year. And to the wonderful people in TOG, though we had our ups and downs, I certainly love you all more. :)

Keys to my heart <3

The Keys to Your Heart
You are attracted to those who are unbridled, untrammeled, and free.

In love, you feel the most alive when your partner is patient and never willing to give up on you.

You’d like to your lover to think you are optimistic and happy.

You would be forced to break up with someone who was emotional, moody, and difficult to please.

Your ideal relationship is open. Both of you can talk about everything… no secrets.

Your risk of cheating is zero. You care about society and morality. You would never break a commitment.

You think of marriage something you’ve always wanted… though you haven’t really thought about it.

In this moment, you think of love as something you don’t need. You just feel like flirting around and playing right now.

What Are The Keys To Your Heart?

National Conference 2005

November 26th, 2005 by sooty-lashes

Firstly, I’m so glad to be HOME. :D

Secondly, I’m so excited to be going for National Conference 2005!

It starts from Monday onwards, till Saturday. A total of 6 days, filled with almost 500 students from 40 different campuses around Malaysia. Isn’t that amazing? :) The common thing among all of us is that we’re all Christians! And that makes my heart sing. We’re gonna learn many new things, and have lots of fun. And the most important thing is, we’ll be able to find out the heartbeat of God for Malaysia. :)

It’s also gonna be fun because I’ll be meeting a lot of my Camp Cameron 2005 friends! [Wow, this year is surely a year of FES camps for me :D]. I’ll be meeting my dear family members, like Papa Max, Mun Yoke, Jennie, Peck Kuan, my dear friend Kimberly, and the ones that I know who’s going from Camp Cam- Kok How, Aaron, Mark, Mun Yee, Auntie Wan Ling, our grandparents and other aunties and uncles, and others. Also, there will be almost 100 participants from both USM Main Campus and USM Engineering Campus! :D We’re gonna be the biggest group there. [I pray that we won't be arrogant people just coz we're the biggest group! :P]

Not only that…….. I’ve got other friends from other unis who are not from Camp Cam going too! Jeremy from HELP College and Mel from UM… It’s truly going to be a totally fun time! :)

Here’s to a refreshing, exciting, eye-opening, fun conference! Hallelujah! :)

You scored as Elizabeth Bennet. As one of Austen’s most beloved characters, Elizabeth Bennet represents what most women would like to become: strong, independent, and loyal. Of course, she has her faults including a stubborn will of iron and a clinging to first impressions. Overall, Lizzie is bright and lovable…something to admire and aspire to.
